First they took away our right to drive without seatbelts, making young men and women across America less cool. No motorcycle cruising without a helmet? Scores of middle-aged men’s cool, already dramatically weakened, barely recovered. Then they took the FREEDOM of smoking in bars away– a crime akin to banning the use of peanut butter with jelly. It is now nearly impossible for me to look a little ‘dangerous’ to the girl across the bar, the cigarette being the only thing able to counter my very un-dangerous looks.
BUT NOW THEY HAVE GONE TOO FAR.
There is legislature out there that will ban smoking in you car!!
(if you have children in the car also)
Now, having kids already damages one’s cool almost beyond repair. Must we take away the last tool at young parents’ disposal to fight back? But it’s not just that– I, as a parent, cherish those country drives with my children, in part because it gives me a chance to smoke and drink freely, something I can no longer do in bars or even my apartment. The kids don’t mind as far as I can tell– two of them are too young to even know the difference.
The right to smoke in the car with your kids is one of the cornerstones of America. The lack of these freedoms have always paved the way for fascist crack downs on an unsuspecting populace.
